In Treating Breast Cancer, The Benefits of Intraoperative Radiation Therapy

Intraoperative radiation therapy [IORT] is radiation applied at the time of a surgery, often as a one-time therapy. This means the use of only one radiation dose is needed – performed during surgery – rather than post-surgery multiple radiation exposures and patient office visits over a period of weeks.
